SOF Role:

SOF Title:
Recruitment Coordinator, Instructor
Bio:

Although she hails originally from the Lone-Star State, Denae has made Michigan her official home. She first came to the Great Lakes region to study at Saint Mary’s College in South Bend, IN where she received a Bachelor’s in Biology and Sociology. Following graduation, she moved to Chicago to work in public health research. It was there that she discovered her interest in farming, albeit from a systems perspective.  She eventually found her way to Michigan and  the Student Organic Farm where she has been since 2008.

In 2010 she was the Propagation Manger and Recruitment Coordinator for the program and, along with other program staff, she collaboratively re-designed the program into its current format.  She is currently a part-time instructor as well as the Recruitment Coordinator for the program and has recently started a local sustainable agriculture business.  She grows transplants for local farmers, microgreens for local restaurants and does a bit of consulting as well.  She’s  very grateful for her connection to the SOF and all of its amazing community members.
