Living Options in East Lansing

Jay and "Trip"It is the aim of the Certificate Program Staff to help create a holistic learning year for the participants. We recognize that living in a place where students are able to eat the food they grow on the farm and to have opportunities to study and socialize together is very important. We will work with each student to find the best living situation for them. This may be living with a group of students from the program in a house, living in a house or apartment alone, living in their own home if they are a local commuter, or living on campus in a dorm.

Rent in the Lansing / East Lansing area can range greatly. Sharing a house is the least expensive route and living in a house alone is the most expensive. Many of the students in the program or who are involved with the farm in other ways live in the east side neighborhood of Lansing. Many options are available in this neighborhood and many social events are well established with the aim of building community and sharing the food grown at the farm. The most obvious of these events is the Monthly First Friday Potluck where students, staff, and friends of the farm get together each month to share a delicious meal made with food grown on the farm.

We are committed to helping each student find the best living situation for their year here in Lansing and we will work with each student to make that happen once they are accepted into the program.
